Review:

This is a beautifully understated design, with a fresh but limited colour palette. Although still under live redevelopment, and with a few content holes here and there, Stuart's personal folio site looks set to make a big impression.

I particularly love the large block-level rollover links on the right of the page, and the tab menu and logo work together successfully. Contrast seems just right, markup is minimal and the liquid layout lends itself to such designs where sidebar content is wide enough to restrict the main text from stretching too wide on most screens.

So, it's just up to Stuart to finish it off before our very eyes. Don't make any mistakes, will you? Perhaps we shouldn't be celebrating an unfinished design on Stylegala, but for me this design should not be overlooked at any stage.

I can't say I'm really impressed. I agree that the right sidebar looks good, but the header and the content area leave me wanting more. I don't feel the shadow effect on the menu part of the header, and what bothers me most is the lack of alignment on the content area.

For a work in progress I think it's a good start but there are still lots of things to be (re)done.

Really elegant, clean design and a great example of a liquid layout that works. I'd like to see more detail in the header though.

Hey all. Thanks for the nomination Reggie, and the listing, and your comments so far. I have to say it came as a bit of a shock to see my little site here amongst what is a great colllection of designs.

The site is at a quite early stage of its redevelopment right now, and as such comments like those above are really useful and relevant. Having been sat square on to the design for the last couple of weeks its good to see things form another angle.

I still have a fair bit of fliddling to do, so I'll get back to it.

Cheers, Stuart.

Nice site. I like the muted colors, the text and navigation treatment, and the header/logo. What I _don't_ like is the large black/grey square box on the homepage. It looks out of place within the soft and subtle design that surrounds it. That aside, keep up the good work!

This site is pretty close to being perfect. Only the green is the wrong color and sometimes the content layout is perhaps not all that intuitive. What would the media think if they saw this site? It would be all over "Fat Web Sites monthly" Way way way too wide for my taste. I had trouble reading it! Can you imagine? I looked at each page, they're all too wide for me. Skinny them up, please. Shrink them down horizontally to be at least 200 px thinner.

Other than that, great work. I would like to see more graphics in the heading in the future, maybe. (Can you believe it?)

Sorry this site is the most disjointed site I have ever seen. What sort of style is it supposed to be. It really is an awful example of how to layout a web page. The centre navigation with the curved border looks completely in disagrement with the square type layout. It is confusing and inconsistent. The ratings are backing it up too.

I don't get it - it looks like a mess to me. There is no consitentcy or theme to the design, the layout of the content isn't friendly. Ug...

I realise that the site is still under development, but some of the markup is pretty strange (not to mention invalid); like the <br />s between the <li>s in the music page? Which has gotten me wondering, should or shouldn't we be judging the submissions based as much on the quality of the code as the design?

Overall, I think it's a really nice, understated and elegant design. But, I agree that the content area is too wide and particularly it's width jars against the much narrower navigation bar at the top. Fixing that would give the whole thing a more cohesive feel.

Mateo: I'm a stickler for good, compliant code - it's my main review criteria when it all boils down. I missed the break tags you mention, and I accept that. Maybe as it's a bit of a live redesign we can forgive Stuart for those (I bet he removes them soon!).

Hey Guys, thanks for your comments once more. Those <BR/>'s are being slipped in by my CMS, and im getting to work on it shortly, I just had to take a holiday, but be sure all the little miggling errors are being worked on, and a fixed width stylesheet is being considered.
