Review:

It's unfortunate that I don't understand a lick of German, but it sure speaks highly of Clandrei's website that I can still figure my way around it; in part because of its grid structure and well placed navigational cues -- specifically, their slide-film motif in every page and their traditional left-hand navigation.

Its subtle colour uses enables their portfolio pieces to truly stand out and pop. I also like their restrained use of Flash for the gallery. Each gallery item is it's own complete URL, and the Flash is merely an alternative to a static image within the page.

There's a bit of a div-itis case in this one, which I think can be cleaned up more as well as some <br/>s about, but overall, good effort by the team in clandrei.

And it's oh, so pretty. But for a studio with a rather , they probably know that already.

Lovely design. I was gonna review this too, but was initially put off by the div-itis you mentioned. There's a lot of markup under there. On reflection, I'm glad to see it on Stylegala.

That said, it deserves it's place. The slides are brilliantly done.

forget the validation, this site has style - nice design. i love the navigation rollovers and the usage of slides as a design element. the flash usage in the portfolio section is also pretty killer. i wish i knew how to read german.

this definetely deserves to be in the gallery. very cool work.

yep! uber-nice :)

please fix the ratings - I urge to give it a ten!

ps: sorry for being anal XD, but please fix this too: "because of it's grid structure"

Sehr sehr schön, aber was soll man von clandrei auch sonst erwarten?

Freut mich, dass auch in Deutschland's Agenturen/Büros ein Umdenken in Richtung Web Standards stattfindet.

Me likes it -- way to go!

I feel this site deserves much congratulation for its ability to display a large amount of information without loosing visual appeal or appearing overwhelming or unstructured. Small details, such as the '001' numbers down the left hand side of the header content add extra stimulus and pull the site's non-connected horizontal sections together nicely. I reckon the colour scheme's pretty much spot on too - while it is very simple it gives the site some real character... and the slides - a great creative touch which makes the website a real jewel. My only critisism - it would have been better center aligned in the browser window. Apart from that... great! Nice one clandrei!

Yuck, at the code. There's a point to semantic mark-up. But here we have a lot of redundant (purely visual) elements, and absolutely no inherent HTML-elements such as the <h1> or <p>. In fact, most of the text seems to be defined as links.

So, in regards of usability, accessability and appliance of CSS to XHTML this is acctually a poor attempt in my opinion.

I seriously liked the style though and graphical approach. Dropshadows feels a bit much, but I'm just into an extreme amount of minimalism right now.

This is a good example of visual metaphor used properly. Often visual metaphors (the physical slide book) are taken too far and produce heavy, overwrought designs where the metaphor devours the site and its content. Here it is somewhat stylized instead of using actual photography and softened with neutral tones that serve to emphasize the portfolio content (I agree with the reviewer).

It seems like everyone has gone a little dropshadow overboard (I'm certainly guilty too) lately with web design but here at least it makes sense in context of the visual metaphor. Viewing a slide book under a soft light would produce diffuse drop shadows like in the design.

PS: The review has it right.. ;)

Ha, Scott, Ricardo was actually right -- he was pointing out what I had wrong and I fixed it up lickety split without mentioning I did. But thank you both grammar hounds. ;-)

Quite nice design, but messy code.

the navigation is at the wrong place! try to watch the site with the eyes of a customer and with a screen-size of 800x600 or 1024x768. and the rss feed is not function...

only good design - forget the rest!

I love the slide show, too! If I can navigate and can't speak the language, it must be intuitive.
