Review:

Gallery sites seem to be like buses lately. Nothing along for ages then three turn up all at the same time.

I very much enjoyed visiting this site. The concept of the whole thing is really good and the makeovers they have done do improve on these famous sites.

I am still looking for the perfect site and as such this is not it. There are some issues with CSS validation and also the English used throughout the site is not correct. It is of course a second language. For me this is a problem because the site is targeting English speakers. If there is money in the kitty then this would benefit from some native English copywriting.

Apart from these issues I think this is one of the nicest designs I have seen in a long time.

Heavily designed image rollovers without preload? Come on guys, get with the program and use CSS sprites.

And the most prominent links on the front page go straight offsite to non-client websites, instead of to the unsolicited makeovers.

The guys seem to have technical graphic design skills to develop flat mockups but are not convincing in the other aspects of UI design..

yeah the preload sucks.

Besides great graphic work it's so common.

I like the design - especially the images (have a look at projects). On the other hand there a lots of images (see Adam above) - heavy load and bad preload technics.

Usually having my browsers set to not cache anything, the menu items with hover treatments all blink every time they are moused over. Why any designer wouldn't opt for sliding doors -all one graphic that just gets repositioned (no blink) is beyond me. The samarai is a bit oversized to me. Overall the site design is fun, you can't argue that, and what's not to like about fun, even if you are a standardista.

There's a flicker on everything - which is ridiculous considering the many techniques developed to prevent this unsightlyness.

A lot of it is not thought out...I clicked on the Nikon.com link (from the main page) and browsed their cameras (i.e: LEFT the Digimurai portfolio).

Nice design, enjoyable to navigate - but not one I'd expect to see at Stylegala.

Hmmm...Design is ok but nothing gallery worthy. I understand that you own Stylegala now Simon but I don't know if you're qualified to be adding sites to the gallery. You obviously don't know great underlying css/xhtml (maybe you don't care?) and your design level and critique is not high enough to be sayng, "Oh I think this site is pretty, I'll add it to the gallery!".

If you want your loyal Stylegala fans to keep coming back I suggest you have real reviewers who the community looks up to and trusts reviewing sites and adding them to the gallery. Leave that work for the big boys.

I like the design. A couple points of improvement though:

1) Fix the hovers

2) Show designs for real clients

I think you did a great job on the redesigns in your portfolio, but they make better experimentation or case study pieces. It was misleading because I actually thought you were involved in those redesigns with the actual company. That is a huge dock in credibility and I am sure its uncomfortable when clients actually think you did work for Nokia and you have to sheepishly tell them you did not. :D
