Review:

A long time favorite of mine, Parc Rittenhouse is a beautiful, well-crafted Web site that is worthy of being spotlighted on Stylegala.

First, let’s all be familiar with the basic fundamentals of design: Alignment (i.e. grid), color, typography, contrast consistency, and identity. Parc Rittenhouse excels in most of these and is strong in the rest.

To be fair and acknowledge that all designs aren’t perfect, I’ll start with the weaker points of the site. The contrast is way too light. Placing the white on intense blues, greens, and tans can make the titles within the eye-catching graphics hard to read, especially for older folks, who are probably 50 percent of their potential residents. Secondly, the site may lack in some search engine optimization. When I opened up the hood, the first thing I noticed was Heading 4’s after Heading 2’s. , the firm responsible for this gem, definitely has a pretty good art director. Pure brilliance.

I really like this site, it has been a long time in coming partly because they had an issue with there rollover menu, glad to see that was fixed. to bad you have to leave a disclaimer like that, guess you saw what happened to me ;)

I really like this site, gave it a 10. The inviting color palette and simple touches (like equal padding around elements, a MUST that many forget) are very well executed.

On behalf of Pixelworthy, thanks for the kind words Kris! The Parc Rittenhouse site was done by Dan Mall and Kevin Cornell, so it's easy to see why it turned out so well. And if I remember correctly, the site won a Silver Addy award not too long ago.

This really is a beautiful site. The minimalistic approach really enhances the great photography the site has to offer and oozes the understated class I'd imagine to be very important to their target audience.

Very good website and a great entry into the StyleGala gallery. Clean, well written CSS, the homepage validates (bar one tiny little error) and the strong branding throughout with the logo and design are top notch and well executed. Some inline JavaScript flawing the otherwise clean markup.

One potential problem might be the inconsistency of the colors used for the links as these are different for each of the site's sections. Once you figure that out, another potential confusing issue is the fact that the color of the links is almost identical to the color of the titles.

Both of these might eat away at the site's usability, especially considering that most of its users will probably not be very internet savvy.

As far as the overall design goes, I really love it. Very clean, well-executed and the color combinations work very well.

you know after looking at this site for about the 20th time, i do have one critic, why is most of the textual content in the smaller column aka side bar? makes the pages unecessarily long, dont get me wrong i still the site but i just really noticed this after looking at it so many times.

and maybe others wont really notice that cause they wont look at it as many times as i have.

The only negative thing i can say, is that the Flash on the startpage blends images way to fast for my taste. This is really a nice Site!

Nice clean site! The color combination and readability is excellent!

The only thing bugs me is, the pages does not need to be this long! Anyways, great work!

I like it very much, the only thing I don't like at all is the form styling on firefox. I'd like to see what is a form field and not just get coloured boxes. It is an important interactive page element and shouldn't blend in completely.

Nice site! Gave it a 9, the one thing I would suggest is to maybe utilize sIFR for the headings instead of the graphics.

I'm guilty of using graphics for headline text as well, but the times are a changing.

Having witnessed the creation of this site beehind the scenes, I'd just like to point out that Parc Rittenhouse is not really being marketed to "older folks." The place was pretty much built for rich yuppies. One look at the Features page will make that clear. That said, I'm glad to see this site on Stylegala. Nice work, fellows!

Certainly a very pretty site with almost excellent markup and solid layout structure. However, I found myself thinking the same thing as mentioned by David B. -- there seems to be very little reason or logic to the placement of content. The right-hand column should not be used for the bulk of textual content: the smaller width makes the text feel very cramped during reading, especially towards the bottom of the pages when the left-hand column is nothing but white space. The layout works well on the location page, but no where else. Especially odd is the features page where I can click to see the library lounge but then have to scroll down a whole page (on my res) to see the description.

There is no dispute that a lot work was put into styling this site, but it appears (in my humble opinion) that the designers fell victim to falling in love with a layout that perhaps worked well on the first page they designed and then forcing the rest of the content to work within the confines.

At first I wasn't impressed but it definitely grew on me. I have to admit I think the best part of the site is the flash... the slideshow/video for the pool club sold me.

Who said minimalist design is boring? This is the perfect example of a design so cleverly crafted. I particulary like the google map integration. Great work.

My only criticism, and someone pointed this out earlier, is that the form does not look like a form. It is too much blended in the page and does not stand out as it should. Also, the hover and selected state of the navigational menu could have been better with non-white colors.

That is my opinionated take.

Clean, refined, and straightforward. The Flash does blend a little fast, but that's nothing more than a quibble.

Actually, what I most appreciate about this entry is not the design but the copy. In a designcentric age, it's become increasingly rare to read copy that not only accentuates the design but actually, in my view at least, stands out above the design.

By the time I had finished reading some of the text, I was drooling at the mouth, wanting to know how quickly I could get an apartment!

Whoever wrote the copy -- hang on to them for dear life; they're doing a great job in my view.
