Review:
I understand not a word of Manuela's website, it being almost entirely in German, but good design is an international language, and I'm seeing an abundance of well-executed CSS designs coming out of Germany these days.
Her ambitious columns within columns (simply an unordered list) work really well, and the bold colours made my day as I browsed a batch of drab submissions.
Sadly, use of weighted list tags (which always seem to compromise a design) and favicons as links are adding a lot of extra markup to the pages, and I can see lots of places where the design would benefit from a little less detail.
However, as you browse the site, it is the smarter details that catch the eye. The article headers are stylish, and the soft borders around the columns enhance the beauty of the site.
Maybe not perfect, but it has the x-factor. More than enough to keep me engaged for some time, which is a real strength considering I can't actually read any of it.

The Zen of CSS Design
Thanks for submitting this Thomas - Manuela has produced an excellent site with very little to fault it on!
There are a couple of things - but it's code-based stuff (and that might seem a bit too critical - according to some people's recent comment on this site!)
Overall though - this is just one of the best sites I have seen on the web for quite some time. It validates, re-sizes well, and the colours and layout are not too 'busy' or overwhelming.
I'm sorry I can't read German. (Thomas: If you know German, please relay to Manuela how great her site is!)
I'm also surprised how long I was looking at the site regardless of the language barrier.
I look forward to reading other people's positive comments about this site and curious to see if anyone has valid critisism too.
I'm giving this site an 8 (tempted to give it 9 though!)
Ah Simon....everything you put: all true!
One word on the code then: 'div-itis' (You know what I'm talking about!)
(Okay, I think it deserved a 9 more than an 8 - so I gave it the 9!)
That doesn't mean I'm soft!!
Indeed, the weighted list looks out of place on a such a good looking site.
This design seems too cluttered to me. It takes a while to find your way around; there's too much to read and you don't really know where to start.
I love the design, it's strong colors and the great little details.
@Denis: The site has a lot of content, but if you speak German, you find your way around. It is more like a portal to me.
Indeed, lovely!
Excellent site!
For all of you, who don't know German: It's a site about CSS and only one part of three or four similar sites about CSS, her design-studio, Photoshop-stuff, and Firefox-tips Manuela has created.
She recently modified the design a little bit to clean it up and show more white ...
The site is full of CSS related stuff, including many links to german and english Articles about CSS, XHTML and accessability, a forum (unfortunately too less users) and many other useful things. She also discusses CSS-redesigned and newly launched CSS-designed sites nearly daily including screenshots and more ...
In fact, her site is one of the too less CSS-Portals in german language available! I visit it nearly daily ...
OK, i'm living in a German-speaking area ...
I like the logo and the button design, it's nice incorporated with the colours, but the content could have been organised better. I'll give it a 9 for the desing and the details...
Looks much better these days :-).
