Review:
From first impressions, Rikcat Industries is simply a beautiful site. It is the portfolio site of Rik Catlow, who also runs a site with his illustration work as well .
What immediately sticks out to me with this site is the great use of whitespace. With the contiual rise of "web 2.0" it's great to see someone do something light and simple. Rik Catlow pays nice attention to the typography of the site, making it the main visual impact.
Another great aspect, which some might not see is the simple color usage. Black, White and Gray works, I almost forgot how well it works. With this simple color scheme I'm not getting a sensory overload from all the colors.
My only beef however is the portfolio page I would expect a little easier view of the portfolio work. Maybe making the pictures clickable as well. If you have time make sure to check out the portfolio which is very nice. But other than that it's a beautifully simple site. Plus it validates perfectly.
Rikcat Industries is one of those simplistic sites that offset the often chaotic world of the web.

Designing with Web Standards

What can I say? Simple, beautiful and well built. I love it :)
Lovely work, very clean and simple and it gives off a very calming vibe (or that could just be me!)
Great job Rik. Really impressive. The site of Rik's illustrations is might fine too.
very well done, but the black and white with orange rollovers was a little too reminiscent of subtraction (http://www.subtraction.com/) for me.
Have to say I agree with Lana.
It's remarkably similar to http://www.traitstudio.com which has been on the go long before rikcat
Clean, simple, fast, nice typo. But personally I miss some colors...only some...
very nice web 2.0 sample.. simple color usage. black, white and Gray works. good Rik's Work
I love the simplicity and the clean feel it brings. I think it could use an accent color though. The lack of color in the portfolio was a bit of a disappointment. To stay true to the design while adding color, I'd recommend using color versions of the portfolio images on rollover to entice visitors to view more. I was left feeling like I was looking at a low-budget newspaper print and didn't look at any portfolio pieces. With this simple improvement, I'd say it's perfect! Excellent job.
