hmmm...not the best site to finish the year with. Pretty standard stuff and a few things that could be done a lot better. One page sites should be extra special and this one is pretty mundane.

Sorry, I'm just being honest, but even an amateur like me can spot three "things to be considered" here. The top banner is more than minimal it's mostly empty. The headings are too small. The text color (#878686) is too light. The color works in bold (or large, the quotes) but in normal (and small) text it is marginally readable. I would: add a second element to the banner or reduce it; enlarge the headings; use a darker grey for the small text.

1 page and bland at that. These guys do some nice work but this ain't one of them. No nav, and the colors are so washed out. I applaud their wor, but their site needs some "uumph".

well, i just feel i need to respond to some of these comments.

1. yes the site is 1 page on purpose. we are buried in work right now and don't have time to develop a more elaborate site.

2. we really want the client work to shine.

3. what is the point of a nav on a 1-pager?

4. we are a new company with a new name, so we want to appeal to our target clients and not come out of the gates with something "too edgy"

5. we plan to make incremental improvements while we work on phase 2.

Sorry but this really is poor. Washed out colours, bad semantics. I agree with first comment. Single page sites should be extra special.

This is really poor work and especially for a single page site. Lime green rollover text on white bg? Lite grey on white? Bad semantics. External link that anchors on the page(broken link). Lime green visited state which is unreadable. With only one page, they don't have much to check.

'don't have time to develop a more elaborate site' Erm...you didn't spend much time on the one pager and that is reflected in typos, br links, faint colorscheme. Unfortunately people will review your site badly because it's clearly been thrown together too quickly. Not a good start.

well, i really appreciate the amount of feedback. but i think anyone would struggle with such a one-sided critique. something must be redeeming about our site or it wouldn't have been selected in the first place. but more importantly, how about some suggestions and not just the negativity.

i fixed the broken link and the semantics and am away from my mac so i can't work on the color issues. but it took way more that an hour to design this site and i want it to improve it.

and why do one-pagers need to be like wow? how are they any different in that regard from any other site?

John, I think we all know you do great work. Rockthetriad.com is the best example. What has surprised some of us is why your own company's site would be somewhat plain. Being placed in a website showcase has naturally raised everyone's expectations.

John, I think yor site it's elegant; it works for me. "Stylegala is an online resource and inspiration guide for web agencies, designers and developers"... (!) It seems a court!!

I'm far more suprised with some of the comments here than the actual selected site/design this week. C'mon fellas, some of the comments are really mean and un-constructive. It's easy to sit there and criticise one's work but please be tactful and constructive. sheesh.

Anyways, I like the idea of a 1page style. It kinda inspired me to do the same. Perhaps it lacks that certain 'ooomp' like someone suggested. The top banner is big, given your 1page style, lower res user might've trouble with that, plus a navi menu to jump about the page for mouse users who dont have scroller would be ideal. Apart from those, i think it caters to your target audience; clients. People should look at the site design as a whole and not just the technical part sometimes.

I'm afraid I agree with the other comments. This is not a good site. For a one page site on any showcase u would expect it to be a bit special. This is just ordinary.As for those rolover colors - i mean come on. I'm confused as to why its here too.

I have deleted and/or edited some of the comments that are either rude, non-constructive or irrelevant. Please use the for more in-depth discussions about general subjects. Critisism is good, but keep it on a descent level of manners.

I have to agree the comments here are one-sided and non-costructive. I also do not see very many links to any of these commenter's own work - I think you should link to your own work, if you are going to be so critical of someone else's site. So let's see it!! Pure negativity without anything constructive is purely useless. I do not feel that bashing a design without understanding the site's purpose is valid. It's clear from the ratings that this sitre is not good. I don't like the rollover effect at all. It's too difficult to read. Stylegala - while you delete the comments the articles don't flow and the guy john has a few comments left in that don't make sense when read through.

So where's your site dave? The reason I don't add my site is because we have been spammed many times from blogs! Anyway - it's not a bad site but as a single page effort it is bad.I think most people recognise this and are commenting on that aspect. It looks bloggy and thrown together and the ratings speak for themselves.

Just been through the worth vist section and I'm confused. Saw http://www.infosion.de Now it beats the hell out of me why rockbeatspaper is linked over infosion. Some designers slog hard for days perfecting their sites then a site like this one that has ben thrown together in a few hours gets linked! Not only that, the designer makes corrections to all the mistakes AFTER it has been linked. It's obvious why people are saying negative things about it. I feel cheated.

I think its only fair to mention after so much negative attention that the designer has been a good sport and added navigation as well as spruced up the header image. Being a designer I understand being swamped and our own projects come last, so a 1 page site meets the needs of the designer and yet still provides insight into the what the company does. I find the site to be uncluttered, easy to understand, easy to move around, and to the point. It's as its opening words, a simple solution.

An extraordinary work considering the timeline and potential scope --the restraint is refreshing. This site tells a story and reinforces its moral (personal relationships are the key to building great websites) through the design itself. Limiting the scope of information to one page heavily emphasizing client work and testimonials gets you acquainted with the company; but, by not satisfying the visitor's curiously, anyone looking to learn more must make direct contact: initiating a relationship

Jessica & R.Marie.'the designer has been a good sport and added navigation as well as spruced up the header image' Er...but these changes were made AFTER the site was listed here. Before this the site was attrocious with mistakes galore and bad design! So should we all design a one page site full of mistakes get it listed then make changes? I thought the forum dealt with this kind of thing. This site was awful at first and they've used Stylegala for their own devices. Am I missing something?

Without looking under the hood, I can say that Rockbeatspaper is a fine treat to my eyes. The one-page design is a great idea, presenting the information in a brochure-like format that the customer is most familiar with. I especially like the "Client Work" section's sample, and customer quote.

The one-pager is also quite inspiring. It's been so long since I've seen one that I've forgotten they exist. It definitely makes me rething having multiple pages when they aren't neccessary.

Its simple and effective, it lacks the 'wow' factor but it lets their portfolio pieces do the speaking.
