Review:

The Big Noob succeeds at breaking out of the "standards-compliant look" by applying some underused interface ideas to give us a site that looks at once familiar, friendly, and fresh.

The site suffers from from readily-apparent code problems, and the navigation is a bit tricky--though this is probably easily figured out by the site's target audience--but they compensate for these faults with their creative use of color, typography, and layout. Definitely worth a look.

I really like the look of this site. The navigation is a bit tricky as the review said, but I did manage to figure it out without too much of a hassle. Also the use of a color of than their obvious favorite blue is quite refreshing.

Bluntly put, I love it.

Yeah I'm a big fan of it. I have posted a few times on their site about how much I like it. It's an interesting new concept for a site in the first place; uses wide, fun, big spaces and pictures; isn't affraid to be funny; and has one of the best color schemes I've seen in a while. I'll admit that particular theme may have been used before, but they seemed to have used in a way that seems and feels fresh. The typography is a winning attribute too.

I wish I knew why I don't like it as much as I think I should! Kristopher's comments above are correct - fun, big pics, good colour scheme - and I think it's a brave layout.

So why don't I get it? Is it all this "Noob" business? Maybe it's because the navigation takes a while to work out. Actually, do I like the colour scheme? Feels more like a print layout than a web layout. Oh, I'm confused.

I like it and at the same time I don't. It's just a bit too blue for my taste and the huge header garphics are a bit blurry and dull.

However the grid works great! (As have Bearskinrug and coda.coza proven that already)

Curious how this will evolve.

At first I thought - looks like a cross between neubix and jwts. I think their style is a tad too samey for my tastes. It's almost as if they have a formula that they don't want to move too far away from. Sure it's a lovely site but as colly says above, more of a print layout. I really want to like this site but something is just niggling at me and I cant quite put my finger on it. Sorry I wish I dould be more constructive.

I'm sure Keegan is a nice kid, but that's a little more of him than I need. As Jackie pointed out, I want to like this site and I dig most everything nuebix, but something about this is not working for me. They are impecable designers, no doubt, something is just amiss here.

I really like the look of this site but in terms of readability it's less succesful in my opinion. The dark blue background with white text isn't my favorite combination for reading longer texts. Apart from the readability issue it's a nice site with a daring different design.

It's a great layout, one of my favorite sites of all time. Typography and colors are so perfect.

And finally, I reached my goal of having a link from a css design site, even if it is just for submitting a link :D

Some comments are a bit nit-picky, but I suppose that's the whole point.

My take: great site, fresh and fun. The reviewer says that this site suffers from "readily-apparent" code problems. I'll bite (and display my ignorance): what are these? Looks sharp in Safari, and the source didn't look mangled. "Readily apparent" smacks me as a bit pejorative, as if the coders made egregious use of spacer gifs.

I'm with you, guys. The site is great and somehow you can't help liking it. The layout is not traditional and probably that's what catches you. And great color scheme. Nice.
