Review:
Tinakori Gallery is a beautifully subdued art gallery site that pleasantly blends Web standards, CSS, and Flash. The layout and design is clean and appropriately sets off the art content. In fact, this site is a great example of how to allow the content to step to the fore; a clear example of how design is not decoration, but rather contextual problem solving. This design is the right solution for this context.
The monochromatic color palette is ideal for a site like this one. It lets the colors in the content imagery, rich or subdued, have the greatest impact. The layout scheme, like the color scheme, is simple and quiet. The layout delineation with dotted lines is just enough, without being overly conspicuous. The code is quite nice, and validates. The only disappointment for me is the subtle layout bug at the page top as viewed in Firefox.
I love the way that the artwork imagery is presented. The simple and intuitive thumbnail and feature mechanism is Flash-driven, and is ideally suited to this site. Also nice is the way that the scale of each work is indicated with an image showing its size relative to viewers in the gallery. I’d have to say that this is just a terrific Web site and a gem of a design effort. Of course I’m a sucker for art of this quality, anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed being at this site. It's got a great blend of monotone color, if that makes sense. The Flash was done right. Typography was hot. Good work!!
I feel the idea behind the design is good, but , alas, badly executed. I can't but disagree with Kristopher - I think the typography looks terrible.
I like the feel of the site. It is clean and let me focus on the works of art. Navigation is intuitive. I loved the "relative size" info at the bottom. The size of a piece can very much impact its effect on me in real life. This gave me a sense of being there.
I think that the site did have a really quite, calm and appropriate feel about it, and I loved it for that. It did seem a bit uncompleted though... I agree with Johannes that they typography wasn't all that great. The use of Flash was smart, and I also loved the relative size information... I thought it was unique, useful and really interesting. Overall, the layout and typography could do with a bit of work.
The art displayed there is wonderful, by the way.
I didn't notice the typography being too busy enjoying the beautiful artwork. Being on dial-up I often don't explore flash sites because of the slowness, but this one is done just right, imho. On a second look, I agree re typography especially the different font sizes on the home page. But overall, a joy to explore!
Thanks for your comments everyone. I am really interested in the typography remarks. Any suggestions?
