Review:
ximeraLabs is Tom Muller’s platform to experiment with graphics and form. This website is currently showing a fascinating and melancholy gallery of misinterpreted 3d images caused by a system default image reader that does not recognised the .tiff format.
The structure is very simple and there is a lack of semantic code implementation, so the question is: why in this gallery?
There are two reasons:
1) to let Stylegala’s readers see something different, a website aesthetic based on a concept instead of on a well crafted idea. They also should take this review as a spring-board to the great works of Tom Muller, an expert and talented designer, member of the infamous agency .
2) to invite Tom Muller persevering and to improving in web standards.

Designing with Web Standards
This actually reminds me of some experimental music I've listened to. It seems to capture some people's ears due to the fact that it differentiates itself from the norm by being a bit extreme. The problem is that it just doesn't bend the fine line enough - it only makes a shallow attempt to.
It's good to know that Muller's out there, but this just isn't a worthwhile example of his work, from my perspective at least. He may want to present these images for a reason, but that reason doesn't seem to be applicable in this situation.
The site is pretty cool, as is the project itself. I'm just confused about the first reason for including it:
"..., a website aesthetic based on a concept instead of on a well crafted idea."
What's the difference between a "concept" and an "idea"? Isn't "concept" a synonym of "idea"? I not trying to be one of those spiteful, petty commentors who criticize blog posts by questioning grammar, spelling, or word choice. I'm just confused about what you're trying to say.
Do you mean to say that there's a the difference in goals of this site versus others features on Stylegala? That would make more sense, b/c pleasing aesthetics isn't the primary goal of ximeraLabs. The default image readers "reappropriate" (ximeraLabs term, on the homepage) the Muller's original 3-d images, resulting in a not-so-pleasing result, much like some browers "reappropriate" semantic code and create another not-so-pleasing result. For me, the site critiques relationships of control between a
"They also should take this review as a spring-board to the great works of Tom Muller, an expert and talented designer, member of the infamous agency kleber."
So is this review an advertisement, or a valid review according to Stylegala's own guidelines???
"to invite Tom Muller persevering and to improving in web standards"
I always thought the reviews should be the cream of the crop. Not websites that need improvement.
oops, my post was cut off. My last sentence should say:
"for me, the site critiques relationships of control between a person and a computer or other technology."
When I First clicked in I was like, "what the hell". It makes sense now though. Very interesting. As a photographer I find it difficult to get my images to appear how I want them too without the file size being to large. I always get to much degredation with a reasonable web sized image.
I've followed Ximera for a long time, and I guess it was never the site I would call normal. So it's a very different kind of site to be put on the vault. His work just used to be the old, "big image, click it, move on to next big image that makes no sense." He was one of the stars of that whole trendy 3D abstract thing about 2 years ago.
This site is utterly boring, how these images could be called 'fascinating' is beyond me.
I love it.
Paolo, congratulations on having the guts to post this. :-) It's nice to see SG getting away from the endless stream of "centered rectangle with drop shadows" sites.
James, while I agree with your comment, it's amusing that your own site is exactly as you describe in your comment!
"why in this gallery?"
I think the question should be simply "Why?"
Brilliant - more sites like this should get on the site - the fact that folk are asking 'why?' simply cements its place on the site - thought provoking and reaction invoking - great stuff!
"James, while I agree with your comment, it's amusing that your own site is exactly as you describe in your comment!"
Yeah, I'm ironic like that.
Thank you very much for your comments!

In response to this posting and the comments that followed:
It's not that this site is a bad site. I'm glad to see SG get away from the types of sites James mentioned. But I personally feel there are many more sites out there that would have fit better in the gallery.
I honestly feel that the effort put into creating this site is minimal at best. Any one of us could have made the whole thing in 2 hours... and it's featured on SG...?
