AJAX-S: An Ajax-based slideshow system

Robert Nyman's , is also quite different in some respects. The most obvious difference is that AJAX-S stores slideshow data in an XML file and uses Ajax to retrieve it. With that comes a greater degree of separation between content and presentation. It currently also slightly limits the range of browsers that can run an AJAX-S slideshow, since it requires a web browser capable of doing XSL transformations. According to Robert, that means IE6 and Mozilla-based browsers. I can confirm that it works fine in Camino 1.0b1. I have used S5 for a number of presentations and am happy with it, but having more options is always (well, almost always) a good thing. So I've you're interested in this kind of thing, go give AJAX-S a try.

Although it's nice, I really don't see the point of this. It's just another AJAX-based fad with no real advantage over S5. You could, if you wanted to, transform XML (or use databases but XML is cool, right?) in to the HTML S5 uses.

However, if separation is your "thang", then this is good. If you're going to use S5 as a presentation tool (and you've got control via your laptop of your browser) then you really need JavaScript on, so that prerequisite is just been taken one further with this.

But I'm yet to see the point of it...

Not sure I understand all of the transforms and coding going on here... but the AJAX application is certainly in a useable form, as it is being fed from an XML sheet. The HTML webpage demo http://robertnyman.com/ajax-s/ looks more like a simplified powerpoint slideshow. If it were possible to add some javascript visual effects, such as the mooFX stuff, it would be even more tasty. Check this one out!
