Eddidit

The portfolio of Edmund Hall. Love the textures. (Though those big fat images on the home page need to be clickable.)

what a rip off of ISO50's style. maybe instead of making the images clickable, you should make your site original?

Is it because I used textures for my images? This is just getting ridiculus. It's not his style if you break down the elements of how he approaches his work it's different then how I approach mine.

So now my site is unoriginal. You know this community is probably the harshes. This elitist attitude is just plain stupid. Yes he inspired my work but I didn't copy his work. I didn't steal his work. I didn't steal my design or my concepts.

Just because his is popular doesnt give him the rights that he's the author and originator of this style. He was inspired just like every other artist. Maybe you should think of these things before you just rip someone apart.

Also understand what a rip is before you call someone a rip off.

from you reply, it sounds as though i'm not the first to bring up this point.

since you ask for clarification, the overuse of the silloutted tree, the retro rainbow, reversed animal life and light beam influences are all heavily used and have become the trademark of ISO50.

while i agree a lot of people come off as elitest, i will only say that i was pointing out how similar it was to something that exists.

now as far as intellectual property goes - he has become popular and i personally own art purchased from him early in his career. that is to say, he has become the focal point of a style that you put yourself up for review against. when i said it's a 'rip' that means that is a similar, but not quit as good impression of the same creative influences and styles.

i didn't rip you personally apart. i only said one sentence? it sounds like someone is sensitive to what is obvious. if you make your work publicly availalbe for critique, guess what? it's going to be critiqu

What you said wasn't a critique it was a bash. A critique is helpful.

"what a rip off of ISO50's style. maybe instead of making the images clickable, you should make your site original?"

A few people have said the same thing only 2 people you included have been harsh about it. The others said it reminds them of his work. You and the other have outright bashed me by saying I ripped his work.

That isn't helpful it isn't a critique. It's soul purpose was to break down. And well if I'm sensitive then I'm sorry, but you guys won. Your comments weren't helpful even if my style is similar to his. You don't have to say it in that manner.

I don't mind critiques... I do mind when someone bashes me for no reason.

Michelangelo is a Da Vinci ripoff and all the other artist of the Renaissance are rips of each other, they are all disgusting. all the post modernist need their heads cut off because all their work looks the same.

for that matter we should all stop webdesigning now because arent we all jsut rips of each other. wasnt their someone who did the 2 column layout first?

of course that is all sarcasm. but come on. a rip is a pixel per pixel duplication of somebody else's work that you try to pas on as your own. please learn the difference between being inspired and stealing before you lambast someone as a thief, because that is what you are saying.

you are calling someone a thief when you call "rip". the guy at ISO-50 that we all know about has no doubt seen ED's work and probably has no problem with it. and istn that what really matters?

you guys keep making up new and worse words that i never even said, all per your own inflection. i stand by my appraisal even though you two may contest otherwise. i'm sorry you disagree.

i wish you all the success in the world. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - hopefully it will garner the attention you hope for.

lol i can garauntee , matt, that if we saw your work, we could see where you inspired by someone else, so why are you busting this guys balls about his inspiration?

btw, what new and worse word are you talking about? the only word that is even remotely nonregular that i used is 'lambast', if thats what you are refering too, please pick up a dictionary ;)

I personally think its unfair to accredit the tree silhouette and rainbow imagery to a single person. I have also seen similar imagery else where. For me this imagery reminds me of the "lrg" clothing line. Also, one of Threadless's best selling shirts uses the rainbow imagery. I think this whole, textured images with tree silhouette and rainbows is part of a new and popular design trend...and wouldn't be suprised to see more of it.

And to me personally, this rainbow circle thing seems like a modernized version of something out of the seventies. And I don't say that to imply anything negative...thats just my first impression.
