A new design that should be an easy transition w/o much of a learning curve (if at all) for previous visitors of the site.
I really like how they designed the Leopard page as well.
Nice.
In my opinion, it's really great. I mean, that navigation bar is just *too* sexy. Lovin' it :)
Hell yeah, light on dark power! I love it!
OK, yeah its nice, but is it too simple? I mean its so clean and almost tactile, but I'm on the fence. I think I want to see a bit more character in there
Chadest, simple is Apple's character. By not being in your face they're reinforcing their brand standards; not withdrawing them.
The design is simply brilliant.
It was a real surprise, after all i was addicted to the old design. But the folks at Apple always beat the cord! Really impressive
I wish that designers would stop using grey on black text.... Not the most accessible for folk with visual disabilities.
Can't say I'm all that impressed to tell you the truth. Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the design - it's as clean and simple and well produced as anything you could expect from apple.
What it isn't is groundbreaking, let alone the touchstone for clean and simple design that the previous design was and always will be.
Groundbreaking? Why do they need "groundbreaking" work? They are not a web design company that needs to show they are ahead of the curve with a site that can do really "neat" things...they are a computer/electronics company selling to millions of people worldwide...they need their site to be stable and easy to use...not "groundbreaking"....
I think you misunderstood me David. I was and still am talking solely about the design.
As you mention yourself, "they are a computer/electronics company selling to millions of people worldwide" - millions of people that were already very clearly comfortable with the old site. So what does apple gain with this new look? What does the user gain, aside from a new familiarization with Leopard's marketing materials?
And by groundbreaking, well - how many other websites can you name (don't say Google) whose design hasn't changed for 6 years? And whose design really never even needed to change? Have you ever heard anyone refer to their last website as "dated"? Think of how many design trends burst from the loins of apple's last website? That's not groundbreaking?!
All I'm asking is whether or not this website's feet are big enough to fill the shoes of its predecessor.
I know many people are turning their nose at Safari on Windows, but as a Windows user the Safari beta renders text better than any browser on windows XP.
Remember this gem of a post on zeldman.com on the same subject?: http://www.zeldman.com/2006/11/27/safari-beats-firefox/
Did anyone notice that on their "iPhone" page, that they use a bit of the ol' mystery meat navigation?
Not really dial-up friendly is it?
Looks nice and shiny though.
Steven:
You are absolutely right! But as this is Apple, no one will dare to judge them negatively as they fear Jobs will haunt them in their sleep for not wanting to pay a billion bux for an iPhone.
Oooooo, the Apple web site went from dark on light to light on dark - whoop-ity-doo! Ingenious!
I don't care what it seems to be, but looks pretty
I can't view it. It doesn't work on Firefox (on PC. Hopefully they fix it soon.
Rubbish, it works fine on Firefox on PC. Try updating your Firefox or restarting or something.
I can't see it on firefox either. I'm using Fedora 5 Linux and Firefox version 1.5.0.12.
I really love the picture bar on Mac page. Overall its very nice work.
Take a look at the new search feature and the CSS - it's a massively well-thought redesign. It's quite an acheivement to do it on such a large site in such a classy & consistent enough way that it could elicit a "whoop-de-do" from a hasty viewer.
