Save the Tablature

Help save the tablature. The MPA has made recent legal threats causing many tab sites to shut down. TabAid is here to do something about it!

Man i am not holier than thou, but lets call this what it is, stealing. if you didn't make it and the people who did make it - no matter if they are a bunch of money grubbing, artist cheating asses- don't give you express rights to use, give or sell it, then it is stealing plain and simple.

i dont stand here to judge this one way or another cause for my case i dont like what the music industry is doing but they have deep pockets and the law on their side.

only problem with petitioning your reps. is that they recieve monies from these companies in the form of campaign contributions.

bottom line is that for as much theivery that the music industry does to the artist, dont you contribute to it by stealing their work. and if you have stolen in the past just make it a point to now and in the future contribute to that artist by buying their stuff, either through their record label or them personally. some artist are wising up and have their stuff for sale on their own web sites

Q: What does this have to do with design/web?

A: Nothing.

Okay, the site is built like it should, but then I suggest posting it to a css-site-gallery ... certainly NOT here in the public news!

Hey I agree this doesn't have any place on Stylegala, but no disrespect intended David, I'm not sure you understand what tablature is. (Forgive me if you do already know) Tablature is a simplified way of reading guitar music, which is almost graph-like in nature versus traditional sheet music.

Tab sites are set up for learning purposes and I would be inclined to think they're covered under fair use. My guess would be the bands making big bucks actually selling tablature would be the only ones bothered by this.

Beth, i dont think he knows.

This is getting out of hand. Tabs are derived by music lovers by listening to the song over and over again. Its not like we go into the artist house or studio and steal the song's original manuscript. We love the song, we want to jam it with our own band so we figure out the chords and tabs.

This is so sad. I love mxtabs.net

if putting tabs online is theft then learnig a song by ear is theft and if thats theft then we might as well make it illegal to learn to play an instrument we look for tabs to learn to play not to make money not to STEAL why doesnt the mpa start sueing cover bands and anybody who records a song they didnt create why dont we make it illegal to play a cd in our places of business for background music why dont we make it illegal to have jukeboxes make it illegal for DJs to spin records someone has used on a record already why dont we make it illegal to live and breathe and die for that matter music is life and love next thing you know they'll be putting an age limit on guitars and give us a 3 day waiting period to buy one why not just kill us all now
