Real XHTML? I don't think so. That site doesn't validate as XHTML.

Well, To start the XHTML is not valid and there are 3/4 design problems in the index page alone.

1.) The site feels like a gardener site, no reference to bank, money or anything to do with a bank.

2.) Text goes over the image on the left in safari and i guess this was'nt do on purpose due to the fact that its a real dark blue, navy almost and does and get job of blending in

3.) Icons at the bottom are nice looking but when you rollover the tooltip is aligned horrible and covers the images to the left.

4.) no sure if this was done one purpose but theres a 20/30px blue box that goes from top to middle on the left and bottom to middle on the right.

Overall i think this could make a decent gardener's site if there was a few fixes but as for being a bank site, just doesnt work for me sorry.

Three words: "Too much blue."

Feel free to add a "f-ing" between "much" and "blue," for extra emphasis.

I mean, even the links are the same shade of blue as the rest of the body. And they're not even underlined until you mouse over them.

I will say I like the way the sub-menus are handled. Whether you think drop-menus are the greatest thing ever or the worst idea since pickled garbanzo beans in mango-guava-rubarb sauce is beside the point... These menus are of the click-to-reveal type, which means no worrying about accidentally moving the mouse off the menu and having it lose focus. Not sure what the (X)HTML looks like though -- too lazy to look right now.

XHTML is correctly served as application/xhtml+xml

as does Sydbank and not as text/html as for example this site does.

The whole idea with XHTML was that it was served with xml and then transformed to a presantational page.

But as IE doesnt support this must ppl just use the text/html instead, which is ok but not completly correct

Strange problem in FF 1.5.0.1 (an extra scrollbar is added when I right click):

Also, a h4 tag inside an h2 tag??? Very Strange....

Of all the danish bank websites you post Sydbank!?

http://www.danskebank.dk/ - Validates

http://www.bgbank.dk/ - Validates

http://www.diba.dk/ - 17 errors, but semantic xhtml. And way cooler design.

Come on...

The two first bansk sites is only html 4 and not even strict so cant see the comparison there, and Frames??

Whats up with that..

and the design of those arnt something to brag about IMO.

But Diba is certanly a beauty even do it doesnt validate

With the kind of money the banks of Denmark are makin' these days, I guess them spendin' a little extra on their websites wouldn't hurt ...

While we're on the subject, here are the websites of the 3 major banks here in Iceland.

The Danish bank's websites just don't stand a chance.

Islandsbanki: http://www.isb.is/ (Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional and semantic markup)

Landsbanki Islands: http://www.li.is/ (17 validation errors - XHTML 1.0 Transitional and semantic markup)

KB banki: http://www.kbbanki.is/ (Far from validating, but semantic markup to some extent)
