Actually this is a tool that is useful, spam is generally geared toward higher traffic and promotions to generate sales. If this is spam then anything that's a tool for web users is spam.

The Public News box is being used to advertise a service. Hence it being spam.
Which furthers my point even more. This is a free service that helps people. Hardly spam there are worse examples than this.
to me, Jono-san's (and fellow "aye, there is ssshhhpaaam inda here"-whiners') posts are more annoying and "spammish" than the original news thread(s). might be news for you, but there are moderators here of whom you seem to think not to have their own brains to detect spam and remove it consequently. but nope, everytime, when i click on comments (and foolishly expect some constructive remarks) i have to read this "harrrr.... i shmmmell shpamm here!" crap over and over again. thanks, some people do have little brains of their own to figure out if something is spam or not, and - amazing but - independently and without your help.
