nice idea, but the problem with these types of things is they become popularity contest instead of a true evaluation of design. which i guess is a popularity contest...
David: The current winner is not what we would consider the "popular choice." Let the voters decide. If they want the entrant to be the popular one, then that's up to them.
...i only wished the website hosting a "vote for the best" would look & feel slightly better than this.
I fully understand what you are saying Montoya, I am just surmising, looking at the current entrants, that all the candidates may not get a fair shake. Heavy name recognition on two and another twow i doubt anyone has seen before. just my opinion thought, been wrong before, may be wrong here.
David: There wouldn't be any way to be more fair, than just letting them all have the same chance. Besides, I think people really are just looking at the designs and not the names. The popular ones have already received a lot of recognition so I think people know there's no need to give any more for no reason.
schnuck: It's obvious that you are completely unwilling to use an ugly website. You probably never shop on Ebay or use Google. And forget about Stylegala.
Some people get paid for the work they do, and some people are on teams with graphic designers. I'm not. I'm doing everything I do on my own and I have to do the programming, CSS, writing, and graphics. Even if I did have a graphic designer to help me redesign the site, I don't have the time... I happen to be a student.
But it's obvious that with people like you, the only contributions to the standards community that matter are the ones with pretty faces. How dare I think of providing an ugly website that...
happens to be the only resource site on the web for liquid and elastic design. It's obvious that the only people making websites for the standards community should be graphic designers. I should delete all my websites, cancel my server hosting and go kill myself. Well, according to you. I don't plan on it.
Oh, and Liquid Designs has been featured in 5 design galleries. They might not be Stylegala but it's still something. Just check the about page. Everyone has their own taste.
little hot under the collar huh Montoya, tell you what, I'll help you redesign the site for free, just email me your availibility if you are interested and can talk about it

David: I just don't like the "standards is for graphic designers" angle. I'm not mad, just being honest, showing schnuck the reality of what he is saying.
And I really appreciate the offer, but I'm not looking for charity. I would like to pay for some small graphic design work on the site. It will have to wait for summer, but I'll hold on to your e-mail. Thanks.
"schnuck: It's obvious that you are completely unwilling to use an ugly website. You probably never shop on Ebay or use Google. And forget about Stylegala."
chill mate, chill, please will you?
besides, who said google or ebay are ugly? and if you had read my post more propperly, i said "look AND feel".
"I'm doing everything I do on my own and I have to do the programming, CSS, writing, and graphics." - guess what? SURPRISE - you are not alone there.
"I should delete all my websites, cancel my server hosting and go kill myself. Well, according to you." - please do not kill yourself. i couldn't live with such a bad conscience. seriously, life is a gift. and part of that life is criticism. try living with it, criticism that is.
have a nice & fullfilling life,
s
p.s. i have no idea why you are freaking out. is it pride?
p.p.s. david: your offer is most definitely very cool.
