It's not really a redesign it's the same design all busted up. Figures since they haven't updated in 4 or 5 years.

I'm by no means an accessibility/usability nazi but this site is REALLY impractical (although in a very attractive way). The vast majority of the screen is an image of some atlantis/pyramid type city.

To browse the portfolio you have to go through 3 layers of navigation. It looks good but after 2 or 3 minutes of figuring out what's going on I just left.

Total barf. Well textured barf, and a lot of it... but barf none the less.

You know. You just have to look... and when you do, you think to yourself, why did I do that?

Total visual overkill. Confusing. For a play site yeah, that would be cool but for a company, gimmie a break? The AD's are smokin crack over there. They must be looking at Frank Frazetta too much.

Kyle and Ebert give it 4 thumbs down.

wow no fan fair in this relaunch, seems we caught it right int he middle of a relaunch cause 4 days agao this want up, for what it is(a flash site) its really good, as usual top of the game, but for a advertising agency, the jury is still out, tiny unscalable type all arround.

but i guess the bottom line is thta companies who hire them are looking for this type ofwork, so i say congrats on quick redesign turnarround and good luck.

What... no trendy launch party this time?

Wow! No love for 2A anymore eh? I wondered what type of comments this post would receive, given that it went out to the CSS crowd. We should all be honest however, and admit we'd like to have 1/2 of the success and noteriety E. Jordan and crew have had. Show some love people! Yeesh.

@ everyone who is hating...

not "practical"?? Have you ever worked for an ad agency? With clients like Motorola and Ford, etc I think they know a little more than you.

commentat 22:32 on 02 June 2006, Sam Howat wrote:

@Wayne: Throwing heavy hitting brand names and clients at people who arguing that the site isn't very useable is hardly the correct way to make your point Wayne (Ad Hominem anyone?).

I found the site to be attractive, but very difficult to navigate at times. However, I look at 2A for what it is, a company that produces flash websites for very specialty products and brands that are often expected to look that way by the public.

@Mel

Unfortunately, I doubt you will find many that will agree with you, I'm sure that more of us would like the fame, success and portfolio of such people as Jeffery Zeldman, or... that dude who made Flickr... You know, lasting brands and projects that make a difference in the everyday lives of everyday people...

Overall the visuals are really great...but I found the navigation a pain. I move just slightly up or down and the menu I was making my way to just disapears.

Overall I would give it a 7 out of 10 but thats my opinion.

@Ben: It's actually a Mayan Temple (after sacrafices they would roll the body down the steps). The Mayans being really advanced for their time period. 2Advanced. Sort of makes sense.

@Sam:

I will grant that flickr and zeldman are definitely examples of great standards based design etc. I think it's contextual however. 2Advanced does a great job for the companies they work for. Also, my comment was meant more as a general statement, as in, if any of us had been imitated and recognized as much as 2A, we wouldn't neccesarily take issue with it. My point is, like them or not, they have had profound influence on the overall web-scape.

commentat 04:20 on 06 June 2006, Wayne wrote:

@ Sam : We shouldn't be arguing its usability in the first place. That's not their goal. They provide a "rich media experience". Your just mad b/c they don't have a "Friends & Blogs I Heart" like your site does.

commentat 22:05 on 12 June 2006, Jeff wrote:

Just because its a rich media experience doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to intuitively know how to use it. The new site looks gorgeous, but it is nowhere near as funtional as Version 3 was. And it loads incredibly slower in relation to that site, which I still feel was their best work. Try going to the portfolio and watch the total decrease in load times. It's flashy, and that's gong to sell a marketing group. It's clunky as an interface, and will frustrate users from that end. Will it hurt their business? Not a chance. 2advanced sells their service through repeat clients and word-of-mouth: the site is mainly there to push their brand identity more than it is to generate cold sells.
