Mooglets (beta)

Another one of those JavaScript based, online desktop web interface thingamajiggies. The design is nice and the transition effects give the interface loads of character. From Valerio (the moo.fx guy).

Kinda silly, and it doesn't support IE. I thought the point of standards was to make it easier for sites to function the same in all browsers.

I know wrong place to post it, but the idea of forcing your users to use your product in only one way really bugs me.

it looks to be standards compliant therefore ie 7 should more than likely work. ie 6, however, is a turd and can't go away soon enough.

A good novelty site but I have yet to see a valid use for these types of sites. Does anyone know of any website that uses a system like this (drag/drop etc etc) in a practical way?!

im all for effects and stuff, but i kinda left this page feeling like nothinhg was accomplished, i mean what purpose does this page serve other than to be able to move stuff arround, I have enough truoble keeping my desktop organized let along having to figure out where my google search bar disapeared to on that site :)

I notice it doesn't support IE7 either. I'd be interested to know what the reason for this is.

And, I agree with Luke L. As much as i like this, it's unlikely I would actually use it. But I like what it is achieving, and that it is helping to push the envelope a little further.

I could see it being used more on web applications - maybe as a dashboard for say an intranet task management system. A useful way to allow the user to organise information relevant to themselves, in a way that they prefer to work.

All this AJAX is just in it's infancy. We're still working out what can be done, andi fell we haven't got to the what should we do stage yet. Overall, I think Mooglets is a good stepping stone to some bigger use in the future - what ever that may be.
