i wish you folks wouldn't post about things like this. it's nothing new and just clogs the internet tubes.
It was very handy for me. So is it like it shows the processing bar and during that you can check the form values? Or is it showing the processing bar while the data is posted to the server?
It provides the user with feedback showing them that something is happening after they hit the submit button and prevents them from hitting it again.
i dont know chad, that is kinda sketchy at best, reminds me of one of those 'done for done's sake'. if you want to show the user progress use a loager next to the legend or disable the submit button or something, but lighbox over lay with a loaf bar, i thought i had messed something up, was looking for an image or something.
There really isn't a way to show "progress". It's showing that it is actively processing the form. The overlay method is becoming more common across the web and different Operating Systems to give users feedback during a processing function. It seemed to be a much better alternative than the method used by companies like Expedia which bring you to an entirely seperate page. The suggested usage would be for forms which take extensive processing time, which I don't think my example portrays well.
