Those actually AREN'T impressive redesigns which leads me to believe you are posting this as self-promotion. Next time you do this wait until you have made something better.

I agree, these redesigns are quite a step back from what IMDB currently has. Where's all the features gone? The interface is far from attractive.

I agree, completely. This so-called redesign sucks all the life out of the site. Design is not slapping pretty colors on things and expecting it to all work. This design pays absolutely no regard to the content and structure of IMDB.

It looks more like someone grabbed a template from Open Source Design and copy-pasted some text in.

actually, it's kind of nice to someone actually try to design a site nowadays. granted, maybe imdb works a hell of a lot better than this version of it might, but the benefits of its existing user interface would hardly be impossible to include here. keep in mind this is a design student, who's educators' dedication to web standards may not be as sacred as yours. kids can learn, and they will. in the mean time, let's let them remind us of how nice sites use to look when we all broke the rules.

I think that some of you are being a bit rude here. I think that the comps look great, especially the first one, of course these are only comps, as designers, we all know that by the time we accomplish the final version, we have added, changed, organized, re-defined, etc. With these comps, I can only imagine that the finals are even more impressive. Good job Stacy.

very garish, not really the right place to post these methinks, but since this is unmoderated why not generate yourself a few thousand hits....

This good/bad/student design argument reminds me of paraplegic olympics. Condescendence only makes matters worse.

Even if the comps are impressive for a student (which are not, they're rather... unimpressive), it's got nothing to do with Stylegala or news or news on Stylegala.

And, by the way, this re-design could fit any boring corporate site that nobody reads more than it fits IMDb. Why not call it "microsoft.com redesign"?

Oh, the little engine that could...

And if Zeldman had done it?...

We all certainly drooled over his very lackluster rehash of dictionary.com didn't we?

How about practice what you preach? I'm more impressed with the student comps then those that have posted comments. If you find IMDB's design nice perhaps you are lacking the "good" design gene and you obviously know nothing about usability. Sure it has some features but when it comes to design it can't get any worse than it is right now.
