If you love design so much why do you want to cheat other designers by promoting spec work? I advise you to check out http://www.no-spec.com

An ipod shuffle's worth just under $100, that's no small offer do you think, maybe it's used and he's just upgrading his tunes player. Also a link back is a link back, so there is some traffic exchanged. Throw something together that takes 15 minutes, maybe get lucky.

It's better than other offers I've seen like a dvd dump with pirated materials on it.

Good luck.

The "prize" isn't really the point. It's really more about duping designers to offer up comps for free with only one designer getting any compensation. The company should actually do it's homework and find a designer that can offer what they are looking for. It's lazy and dishonest.

he seems quite up front about the reasons for doing it. maybe he isn't, but it depends how you see it.

from my point of view, i'm more about code than design - i'd do the same thing.

i'm sure most designers are not so daft as to be 'duped' by this - it's up to you whether you do it or not.

It seems to be a community related site of resources, not a totally commercial venture. Ya never know on that account.

A surprising amount of entries so far. Some of them quite good.

Throwing something together in 15 minutes as Ty put it isn't identity design. I spend hours upon hours creating just the right mark for a company after the fact that I have spent hours of time on research and communicating with my client exactly what the mark should say about their business.

$100 is a pretty weak prize, but then again there are plenty of 15 year olds with Photoshop who think $100 is a big deal. I'm with Brent on spec work ... personally I never do it.

This is, indeed ... crap. But SG keeps it in the news, while a call to action to help reduce pornography is deleted, just because I was an idiot. Well... I guess everything has a price!

Anti porno news goes on a anti porno website or a website that has a general topic. Design news (even a no spec message) gets left because of the no-spec message.

Calling things crap may have more bearing on your self proclaimed idiot tag than the post that was removed.

I regret sending 2 submissions on the very last day. I would rather make some moolah elsewhere than to nail that $99 ipod shuffle.

I'am making a resolution from now on. Screw logo contests. if you need a logo then contact me thru proper channels and PAY!

Serious designers should step up and abstain from this "so called competitions".

Fries, anyone ?
